BRIDE AND PREJUDICE starts in Amritsar when a determined Mrs. Bakshi [Nadira Babbar] sets out to find marriage matches for her four daughters [Namrata Shirodkar, Aishwarya Rai, Peeya Rai Choudhuri, Meghnaa], while there's a lavish wedding in town. Right away, the smart and headstrong Lalita [Aishwarya Rai] announces that she will only marry for love, giving her mother nightmares.
Lalita meets the wealthy American Will Darcy [Martin Henderson] and sparks fly. But is it love or hate? Darcy comes across as an arrogant Californian snob. For Darcy, Lalita is like a small-town Indian beauty who knows nothing of the world.
Alternately enchanted by and suspicious of one another, Lalita and Darcy nearly fall prey to assumptions, gossip and a comedy of errors… until pride is humbled and prejudice overcome, so that love can triumph. |

| This was my first Bollywood movie, too. I rewatched it recently, and the likeable things are still likable. Martin Henderson's performance not great. Costumes extraordinary. |

| I am a white American and this was the film that introduced me to Bollywood. Looking back it is really just an above average Bollywood film, but being that it is in English, it was my first taste of Bollywood and the film that made Aishwayra a star outside of Asia and Britain. Good, but not great, film. |

I found that this movie is desirable for men and women. The young and old. Americans and Indians. This well rounded movie is enjoyable for all.
Plus I believe that this was much better than Bend it Like Beckham.
I loved every minute of it! The movie contained all of the right elements: romance, comedy, musical, even adventure! I must admit for those who enjoy sad and depressing movies, this isn't one of them. |
