'Aanch' tells the story of Jalees (Shafi Muhammad), a kind, humble character who re-marries (following a bitter divorce) in order to provide a mother for his three young kids. Ulfat (Shagufta Ejaz), the step-mother gets introduced to Jalees' three children on her wedding night and immediately develops a hatred for them. She finds it difficult to come to terms with the fact that Jalees' motive behind the marriage was mainly to acquire a mother for his children. The children have to face her wrath and soon utter chaos reigns supreme in Jalees' household. Ulfat's parents also try to convince her to correct her behaviour but fail to do so. Ulfat later moves to a hostel and files for divorce. What happens next - you will have to see the play to find out. All we can tell you is that the ending is very satisfying.
This is an important play and has a strong message in it for couples - it clearly show how important a successful marriage, a partnership between a man and his wife is, for the benefit of their children. It also proves that true happiness in marriage lies in little, simple things that we take for granted. Both newly weds & older couples should enjoy this play. |
