Spread all around are traps and webs. Traps of the
hunters, and webs of the cunning. Dazzle of gold
spreads darkness in which
anyone can get lost at any time. This magnetic dazzle
shields the man made horrible hell that lies in it's
abyss. Some walk into it themselves, and some are
driven into it. Ganga, chaste and charming, who dreamt
of being a good wife, and a good mother, after being
driven into this hell, came to be known as Ganga Bai,
an object of night entertainment. Her life and love
were not hers.
Meaning and aim of life were lost to her. A never-
ending night seemed to have extinguished all hopes of
a dawn, when, suddenly one day she saw a little ray of
hope. Ray of Love. Love of an innocent child. Orphan
little Munna, a prey to the tyranny of rich relatives,
left home for good. He had never seen his mother, but
remembered the description of her given by
his father. His mother, he had been told, had gone to
the house of God. And it was in the house of God, a
temple, where he
first spotted Ganga, who matched the description of
his mother, and won her heart by his charming smile.
Munna’s love turned Ganga Bai into Ganga Maa. She
found the meaning and purpose of life. One has to pay
a heavy
price to be and to remain good.To make Munna grow into
a good and successful man, Ganga Maa paid a heavy
price by hard work and labour. Munna grew to be an
architect of great promise. His untraditional methods
made many experienced
architects bow their heads. Young, handsome, and
successful Munna was still a mother’s boy, a shy guy
who kept away from girls. But, another young architect
erected a beautiful little temple in the heart of this
builder of sky-scrappers. She was Roshni, bright and
beautiful, brought up and shaped by modern education.
Ganga had left her past behind. She wanted to bring
Spring of happiness in Munna’s life by making Roshni
her daughter-in-law. All seemed well, but, but what?
Lava of her ghastly past, burried deep under the ashes
of time, bursted into a volcano, which in its stride
swept away happiness of Ganga, Munna, and Roshni too.
Why, how, and what happened thereafter comprises the
suspenseful, satirical and sprightly story of Sawan
Kumar’s GOMTI KE KINARE. |
