Roy (Abhishek Bachchan) is a professional conman, who has raised his work to the level of an art. The only true thing he has is his love for Simmi (Priyanka Chopra) – someone who is so rooted, honest and sincere, that he can’t bring himself to tell her the reality of who he is. But when his past catches up with him, she cannot forgive him for the deceit their relationship is built on. He loses her forever.
That’s when Aditya Srivastav (Riteish Deshmukh) enters the picture. He is the counterpoint to everything that Roy is – as frantic as Roy is calm, as dumb as Roy is smart, as messy and untidy as Roy is smooth. They have only one thing in common – Aditya is a conman too. At least he thinks of himself as one. In Roy’s book, he’s an embarrassment. But one that won’t go away!
Despite himself, or maybe to take his mind off Simmi, he agrees to teach Dittu the rules of the game. In that process, he melts and warms up to the boyish charm of his ‘student’. That’s when his world is spun upside down – he is forced to face facts that are a slap in the face. Suddenly Roy, who prides himself on being able to cheat anyone and anything, is pushed into a corner from where there is no exit.
For the man who wears so many masks, he is now left with no alternative but to take them all off and finally reveal himself – if he is still there.
With an outstanding and innovative musical score featuring a dazzling array of international and local talent, Bluffmaster! Promises an exhilarating roller coaster ride full of laughs, excitement and emotions that are quite unprecedented. |

Visually and technically, Bluffmaster! is amongst the slick flicks to come out of Bollywood in recent times. The film has an interesting story to tell as well, but the screenplay and its execution aren't the type that would appeal to the audiences from East to West, from North to South.
Roy [Abhishek Bachchan] is a conman out of choice. The sole person he tries to be honest with is his girlfriend Simmi [Priyanka Chopra]. However, Roy hasn't really had the courage to tell her the truth about himself. But when his past catches up with him, she cannot forgive him for the deceit their relationship is built on. She walks out on him.
Dittu [Ritesh Deshmukh] enters the picture here. He is the counterpoint to everything that Roy is -- as frantic as Roy is calm, as dumb as Roy is smart, as messy and untidy as Roy is smooth. They have only one thing in common: Dittu is a conman too. At least he thinks of himself as one. In Roy's book, he's an embarrassment.
To take his mind off Simmi, Roy agrees to teach Dittu the rules of the game. But he soon realizes that he doesn't have much time on hand: He has brain tumor. Suddenly, Roy, who prides himself on being able to cheat anyone and anything, is pushed into a corner from where there is no exit.
Roy is ready to take on his final 'act': To teach Chandru [Nana Patekar] the lesson of a lifetime. Chandru is a shady character who owns a hotel. Roy and Dittu embark on a new journey…
Bluffmaster! is akin to the sensex -- it has its shares of highs and lows all through those two hours. Amongst the highs are a few individualistic sequences, which include the con jobs: Abhishek robbing Tinnu Anand, then duping Hussain Shaikh in the dance bar, Abhishek and Ritesh's first encounter in the lift, the credit card sequence, Nana's introduction when a visitor's car bangs his car, the sequence at Maratha Mandir movie hall.
Also, with snazzy song picturization [especially the final track on rolling titles] as also a generous sprinkler of witty one-liners, you tend to feel elated.
Nice pass time to put it simply. |

Bluffmaster is a slickly packaged comic con yarn that is racy, doesn’t take liberties with logic, holds your attention, and keeps you trying to outguess the climax. It succeeds, you fail in guessing the climax, and when you have a taut screenplay that is urbanely tongue-in-cheek, peppered with some very funny lines, peopled with well detailed and very funny characters performed by some of the best cast actors for each role, and good music completing the package … well, you have a four star entertainer. Kudos to director Rohan Sippy for Bluffmaster.Abhishek Bachchan excels in a role that demands a powerful performer. The actor carries off the part of a suave conman with style. |

First I was skeptical to watch this movie - thought it was a copy of Matchstick man. However, the only similarity is that Roy is a con-man and he has a partner. From there on the movie is an Indian Masala - not the boring type tho. The cast did a great job. Nana Patekar again is a class act. My son (13) made me fast forward most of the time when Roy and Simi were having dialogue tho. I am used to it now. :-) |
