Thought-provoking analysis of Religion |
Ram Kaushik |
|
Very thoughtfully executed story about an orthodox Hindu priest whose understanding of religion and spirituality is questioned at a fundamental level. How we get caught up in the outer trappings of religious customs but lose the very essence of unity (Brahman or Aatma)is beautifully depicted. Good acting all around - as usual Pankaj Kapur gets into the very skin of his character. Cinematography is superb and historic Benares as caught between the 4th and 22nd centuries with Internet Poojas, religious fundamentalism and riots, is very believable indeed. Kudos and look forward to more from this director! |

If there is anything more than 5 stars, this movie gets it! The INDIA!, The indian culture, the epitome of love, compassion, flexibility and above all feeling the existance of GOD in every human being. A strictly religious Hindu Brahman , adopts a child thinking he is a Brahman boy, later to find he is a muslim's child. The repent, guilt takes over him. He prays for months to purify himself. In the end only to proove he has fathered the child and he is bound to protect him. A MUST SEE!! |
