Daughter of a Brit mother and Sindhi father, Diya always dreamt making it big in the glamour world. But before that dream could actually germinate she longed to be a vet. Diya loved animals. She especially is fond of dogs and has two of her own. But with a beautiful face modeling assignments soon began pouring in. Diya modeled for products like Lakme, Cerelac, Pears etc, when close friends suggested that she enroll herself in the Miss India contest.
After having been crowned Miss India Asia Pacific she lost as India's representative at the Miss Asia Pacific contest held at one was not surprised about her decision to give films and acting career a try. Producer Vashu Bhagnani duly roped in Diya for two ventures Rehnaa Hai Tere Dil Mein that marked the foray of Southern superstar and serial actor R. Mahadhavan in Hindi films while the other film Om Jai Jagdish marked the debut of character actor Anupam Kher as a director. For the latter even a lavish mahurat was held at Mumbai's Mehboob Studios. The media gheraoed the main cast particularly Diya who bore strikingly resemblance to Aishwarya Rai. Even her mannerism looked similar. "Aishwarya Rai is gorgeous! have no qualms being compared to her," Diya maintained.
But even before Om Jai Jagdish hit the floors Diya was out of it. Before Diya's exit it was actress Tabu who staged a walk out. Om Jai Jagdish was bogged down by controversies ever since it was started. Diya chose to remain silent. Her first film Rehnaa Hai Tere Dil Mein released and sank without a trace. Diya then had her hopes pinned heavily on E.Niwas' Dum. The chances of the film not doing well at the box-office were slim. E.Niwas had proved his mettle as a director with Shool. Plus the film starred the latest sensational Vivek Oberoi in the lead. Dum told the story of a wannabe police officer and repeated efforts to do away with corrupt police officers. >From the story it was obvious that Diya did not have much role in the film. Alas Diya's hopes soon crashed. The film was total washout at the box-office.
Diya Mirza currently has Khalid Mohammed's Tehzeeb. She also is dating Salman Khan's good friend Bunty Walia.
