  Chandrachur Singh

A history teacher in the Doon School, Dehradun, Chandrachur Singh aka Rocky entered the big bad world of movies, thanks to Gulzar and good friend, Bobby Deol, who happens to be Chandrachur's brother's closest buddy.

His career has been a mixed bag: hits and misses. Rocky or Churu, as his friends fondly call him, was actually discovered by A.B.C.L for their debut venture, "Tere Mere Sapne" which also stared Arshad Warsi, Simran and Priya Gill. The film being a hit, saw Chandrachud racing ahead of his co-stars. Thereafter, his "Maachis" with Tabu, also became a critical rage across the country. Chandrachur, yesterday's newcomer, had arrived! His second venture "Betaabi" (with Anjala Zaveri) bombed at the box-office, so did Sharbani Deodhar's "Silsila Hai Pyaar Ka" with Karisma Kapoor. Another addition to his kitty of flops was Ashok Ghai's "Shyam Ghanshyam" (with Arbaaz Khan and Pooja Batra), which didn't even get an opening. Suddenly Chandrachur became cold property. Touchwood, his next release "Daag-The Fire" (with Sanjay Dutt and Mahima Chaudhary) did average business. He even did a cameo in Ajay Devgan's home-production "Dil Kya Kare" (opposite Mahima). But as they say fortune favors the brave, luck seems to have come to Chandrachur's rescue again. With "Kya Kehna" proving to be a mediocre runner (he even bagged a Filmfare nomination for this movie) and Venus' "Josh" (with Shahrukh Khan, Priya Gill, Aishwarya Rai and Sharad Kapoor) becoming a hit, Churu saw a ray of hope. Apparently, he has been signed up for an untitled project opposite Shilpa Shetty's sister, Shamita. Chandrachur, rumouredly, had a fling with VJ Meghna Reddy and Mahima Chaudhary, but he'd rather not discuss all that.

Today, he's happily married to Avantika Mankotia, a politician's daughter from Kangra, and believe it or not, he's a trained classical singer as well!
