Priyanshu Chatterjee, a Delhi based model, hit headlines when he signed Tum Bin. Till then it was just ramp modeling that Priyanshu had dabbled with. So Mumbai it was! Tum Bin turned out be an average hit at the box-office. Compared to Rakesh Bapat and Himanshu Malik his costars in the film, Priyanshu was noticed! He was signed for Dil Ka Rishta that marked Aishwarya Rai's mother Vrinda's debut as a scriptwriter. The film also stood to be her first home production. Few know that Priyanshu's role was first offered to Ajay Devgan who felt that he did not suit the part. Dil Ka Rishta sank without a trace. However Priyanshu was not affected by its failure.
Director Chandraprakash Dwivdi roped him to play the lead in Pinjar with Urmila Matondkar. Pinjar, based on Amrita Pritam's famous novel, is based on pre-independence India and tells the story about a woman's love with partition as its backdrop. Priyanshu plays a key role in the film.
A romantic at heart, he wooed his wife in quite a filmi style. Cupid struck when Priyanshu met co-model Malini Sharma during a show in Simla in 1996. About their whirlwind courtship he says, "Completely smitten, I chased her first and then (when she relented) we had a rollicking affair for three years."
Thereafter, they married in 1999. And then the couple moved to Mumbai to pursue their individual ambitions. Although it took a lot of cajoling on his part to make him change Malini´s mind to shift base from Delhi. That was rather slick! Unfortunately the marriage did not work out. Malini Sharma and Priyanshu separated. They decided to pursue their career individually. Sharma recently made her debut in Vikram Bhatt's Raaz. Living alone in Bombay Priyanshu misses his middle-class family. His mother is a school teacher and father was an Indian Airlines employee. Priyanshu also has a younger sister who is studying psychology in the Harvard University. If one was to believe his commitment and the fact that for him "work is worship" then here is another star hovering on the horizon.
