Buddhadev Gupta is the 64-year-old chef-cum-owner of London’s top Indian restaurant. He lives with his 85 year old mother and his only friend and confidante is his 9 year old neighbour -- Sexy. Gupta is an arrogant, egoistic, pompous man with a singular passion in life -- cooking. A confirmed bachelor who has never been in love. Until… Nina Verma walks into his restaurant and life. She is a beautiful, charming, Indian woman. Cool, calm, quiet, but independent and strong willed. However, there is just one problem. Mr. Omprakash Verma, Nina’s father is 58 years old six years younger than Gupta, his would be son-in-law. |

Good attempt |

I thought this was a decent attempt at capturing high-level aspects of a Spring-Fall relationship. Tabu as usual was powerful in all her subtlety; I wish Amitbah has underplayed his character though. He seemed over the top and incredibly annoying at times, and what's with the lame pony-tail? I really liked the fact that Balki (director) did not force the protagonists to dance around trees; most of the songs are played in the background, which is essential for the movie. The cinematography and editing were excellent for a small budget film. All in all, it was a good attempt at an offbeat film dealing with a sensitive issue. |

A Better Attempt Than Nishabd |

This was another Amitabh film about his falling in love with a younger woman. However, what was portrayed in Nishabd in a bit of a riske fashion was portrayed in Cheeni Kum in a more light-hearted way. This is a movie you could watch with your husband and kids without feeling uncomfortable or coming away thinking Amitabh's character was just a dirty old man. The hilarious reaction of the father Verma (who probably voices the general sentiment of most Indians) was great to see and it made the film's message (love knows no age) a little more palatable than Nishabd. All in all, it was a really good film and entertaining without being too "in your face." |

Nice story line. Not sure how many in India will appreciate such a theme of an old man falling in hover with a much younger girl. Bachan has done a great job. Tabu looks horrible |
