'Adventure' is one genre that Bollywood hasn't explored much over the decades. The closest that comes to mind is 'Kacche Dhaage' directed by Milan Luthria. The film had a 'road element' to it and revolved around the journey of two stepbrothers played by Ajay Devgan and Saif Ali Khan.
In a few weeks time comes 'Naksha' [meaning a map], that is expected to be one its kinds adventure movies, as far as an Indian movie is concerned. Coming from a debutant director Sachin Bajaj, it is indeed a brave effort to make a film that breaks the norm and attempts to do something truly different.
We all live in a modern world that is made of concrete, boasts of a fast life and has everything available at the doorstep! But how about a world that existed before us? A world that had its own essence centuries back! That too had its own culture, heritage and stories to tell. There could be numerous myths, lies and tales to tell but fact cannot be denied that there is definitely some iota of truth in whatever we have been hearing since ages!
And along with truth come some deadly secrets that are best kept buried! Because when they are unearthed, things are never the same again!
For those with honest intentions, this could be the means to know about a world from the past and gain from that knowledge. But for those who want to use this knowledge for their own advantage rather than using it for the world's benefit, availability of such knowledge could be catastrophic!
'Naksha', an ancient map, was one such piece of knowledge that threatened to reach the hands of the EVIL!
Professor Kapil Acharya had dedicated his life to the world of archaeology. For him, the quest to know more about the world of the past was a desire...a passion! A man with utmost honest intentions, he got lucky when he got hold of an ancient map that lead to something exciting and intriguing!
But with 'good' comes 'evil' and the same happened in case of Professor Kapil when evil cast its eyes on his interesting piece of information. Not to let the map go into the hands of evil, he preferred to die! And along with him went an artifact that could have opened the gates to a secret that could have further lead to a pool of knowledge!
Years went by and Professor's son grew up to be a handsome young man Rohit [Viveik Oberoi]. Soon he comes across a copy of the same 'naksha' while exploring his late father's study. Now Rohit had one mission in his life - to find out what was so important about this artifact that could have even led to his father's demise! He embarks on a journey and now begins an adventure!
An adventure that had thrills, suspense, love and a destination that unfolded numerous secrets!
As Rohit is en route to his destination, the group of men who work for the evil abducts him! Help comes thankfully in the form of Vir [Sunny Deol], Rohit's stepbrother, who emerges on the scene at just the right time to save his brother. Though there is no love lost between the stepbrothers due to the nature of their relationship, Vir now wants Rohit to forget about his deadly mission and return home safely. On the other hand Rohit has promised to himself that he would get to the depth of the secrets!
Journey spices up from this moment on as both the brothers try to prove a point to each other! Sometimes hilarious and sometimes dramatic, proceedings never turn dull for a single moment as the brothers explore dense forests and high mountains with nature at its unpredictable best!
Things turn further unpredictable for Rohit as he comes across Sameera [Sameer Reddy] who is a travel show hostess and finds herself in the thick of the 'jungle'. While it takes time for Rohit and Sameera to get comfortable with each other, relationship starts improving between the two brothers on their extended journey. While there are lighter moments galore with Vir trying to get the two youngsters closer to each other, he also has a challenge in hand to ensure their safety from the evil powers and the dense forest, both of which are equally challenging and frightening!
As they come closer to their destination of finding the secret of the 'naksha', the journey continues to be exciting, engaging and entertaining as mystical elements too start emerging on the scene!
Where did the trio eventually reach? Did evil reach before them? Or were they followed all along by the evil? What was the secret behind this 'naksha'? Would the world remain same forever once the destination has been reached?
An adventure thriller written by Milap Zaveri & Tushar Hiranandani, 'Naksha' also stars Jackie Shroff in a key role along with newcomer Mridula Chandrashekhar. |

With all the history and myths in India - this is what they come up with???!!! It could have been a better movie. What was the role of the heroine? Sunny was wasted a little bit. Skip the songs...the movie drags a bit. |

Well It has got stuff from Indiana Jones, and a Rock movie, but it was mostly clean fun (that is if you skip the dances). Vivek Oberoi is funny and aloof, Sunny is the usual pure toughie. Jackie shroff has turned into Prem Chopra. Fun to watch. |
