Rang De Basanti is a film about awakening. About standing up for one's beliefs. Where the spirit of rebellion transcends time and age. A young LOndon based filmmaker chances upon the diaries of her grandfather, who served in the British police force in India during the freedom struggle. Excited about these memories, she makes plans to shoot a film on Indian revolutionaries mentioned in the diaries. She comes down to delhi and casts a group of five friends to play the pivotal roles of these revolutionaries. |

Great Movie to watch for all generations , specially young ones. Someone needs to step up just like in the movie to make our country great like our forefathers wanted it. Movie sends a strong message about corruption in our system, and without standing up to it their will be no future for us in INDIA.

The message of the movie is very great and clear, no country is great in itself you have to make it great.
Parallels are drawn between the characters in the two time periods first one, the contemporary setting revolving around a group of friends. The second one is in the pre-independence India, revolving around freedom fighters like Chandrashekhar Azad, Bhagat Singh and Ashfak and as the story moves towards its conclusion, the barrier of time begins to dissolve and the characters become one in spirit.
It also reminds of ‘self-immolation’ by university students in 1989-1990. |
