Jism, is different, in the sense it diverges from the usual norm of giving nobility to a heroine. Here the heroine is a sexy ambitious woman who will do anything to get what she wants.
Sonia Khanna (Bipasha Basu) is the young sexy wife of middle-aged industrialist Rohit Khanna (Gulshan Grover). She has a chance encounter with the dashing Kabir Lal (John Abraham) who is a restless, alcoholic lawyer when her husband is away on a business trip. The sexual attraction they feel for each other leads to an affair. As Kabir becomes more and more involved with Sonia, he becomes obsessed with her. When Sonia's husband comes back from his trip, Kabir just cant fathom waiting for a chance to have her again that he proposes a plan to get rid of her husband forever.
The murder is executed almost perfectly but then all the trouble starts.. Kabir's conscience gnaws him ... his friend Siddharth (Vinay Pathak) starts asking awkward questions.. Rohit Khanna's sister (Anahita Uberoi) appears asking for her share of inheritance and most of all Sonia starts taking her own decisions. The whole situation gets out of his control. He soon feels the wrath of his blind passion ...
Credit goes to debutant director Amit Saxena for picking a bold theme as a launch vehicle and portraying it realistically. Inspired by the Hollywood movie 'Double Indemnity', the director along with scriptwriter, Mahesh Bhatt has followed the straight dark path avoiding the usual inclination to make it Bollywoodish. But the first half is rather slow with the director getting wholly involved with the Sonia- Kabir affair and their various hot encounters. The encounters are handled well without vulgarity. The plot picks up in the second half but stumbles again in the climax when the hard core Bipasha suddenly has a change of heart.
Cinematography by debutant Fuwad Khan along the shorelines of Pondicherry is breathtaking. Music by MM Kreem relate well with the theme of the movie. Among the songs 'Jaadu Hain Nasha Hain' is notable. Super Model John Abraham is impressive but it is Bipasha who steals the show. Her talent and especially her superb body are fully exploited. The character artists especially Gulshan Grover, Vinay Pathak and Anahita Uberoi give adequate support.
An erotic thriller different from the usual Bollywood genre which may appeal to a select crowd. |
