Bhagat Singh - Man of Substance |

The movie portrays the plight of the oppressed Indians during the British rule. The movie begins with Gandhi being ridiculed for not saving Bhagat's life and you begin to wonder like what did Gandhi have to do with Bhagat's life. Well the movie continues and traces the life of Bhagat right from his childhood when he witnesses the atrocities committed by the British and he vows to drive them of his country. He grows up into a young man and so does his love for his country. His love for the country is unmatched and he finds companions like Sukhdev and Rajguru. He is a follower of Gandhi but is disappointed by him withdrawing from the non-cooperation movement. He follows the new path laid by Chadrashekar Azad. Together they bring in a breath of fresh air in India and a new dimension to freedom fighting with his aggressive approach and they start attracting followers and at one stage which even competed with that of Gandhi's but an act of selfishness and the entire team in jeopardy and he gets the capital punishment. He embraces with such calm and composure. Such a great man he was that he died with a smile on his face.
As far as the performances are concerned Ajay Devgan steals the show with his awesome acting talent and by far his best performance till date. Others did the job well but as the title suggests this is Ajay Devgan's movie all the way. Good performances by Rajbabar as Bhagat's father and Farida Jalal as his mother. Direction by Raj Kumar Santoshi is great and it is so hard to believe that every scene shot is a true incident, which occurred some 80 years before.
Music by A R Rehman is outstanding including the right music according to the mood of the movie. The music so beautifully blends with the movie that without it would be hard to imagine the movie without it. Most of the songs touches the audience and induces that patriotic that you need to watch the movie. And finally you start cheering for Bhagat Singh to go after the British. |
