Viren (Rahul Bose) comes in Sameera's life in his smile and happy-go-lucky attitude she finds solace, love and all that she was craving for. The two deeply fall in love when schemes of things go topsy-turvy. Vivek's threatened by Patel a casino owner whom he owes a sum of rupees twenty lakh. Sameera receives a call from Vivek asking her to get the money by the evening to save his life. To save the life of the only man she ever loved Sameera gets money out of her reluctant dad at the tip of the gun. Her dad informs the cops about the theft and also appoints a gunman (Kabeer) behind his own daughter to finish her off. Sameera has to run to save her boyfriend and also to save her skin from the cops and the gunman behind her. She has too less time and too much to do this is the crux of Ek din 24 ghante.
Will she make it against all odds? Will her dreams help her? Who will help her reach to save Viren's life on the day of Bandh? |

Why bother?  |

With a cast comprised of Rahul Bose and Nandita Das, one figures a movie cannot go wrong. Two excruciating hours later, I found that I was in error. Recently deceased director (R.I.P) Anant Balani manages to successfully propel this movie into the depths of mediocrity. A suspiciously Hollywoodish "suspense" plot is executed in slipshod fashion with a script so loose it jangles throughout the movie.
Nandita tries hard to look harried as she supposedly struggles to extricate her lover from the hands of a local mafioso. Rahul Bose occasionally wakes up to look his competent self. One wonders why instead of Rahul and Nandita, the cast did not just include stalwarts of commercial cinema, who at least would have had the advantage of trying to salvage these sorts of wafer-thin scripts all the time.
If I were feeling charitable, I would rate this movie as mediocre. |
