D K Malhotra (Naseeruddin Shah), an architect, has a happy married life with his wife Indu (Shabana Azmi) and two daughters. A bombshell drops on him when he discovers that he has a child from an extra-marital affair. He brings home his son (Jugal Hansraj) and confesses to Indu that he is his own offspring. She rejects every attempt of the child's to reach out to her. Though the daughters can feel the tension between the parents, they are unable to understand the reason. D K arranges for his son to be put into boarding school and he takes him there too, but is unable to salve his conscience at the act of betrayal that he would be committing. He brings him back and Indu very reluctantly accepts him into the fold. |

Another Shabana Miracle |

Amazing how good everyone looks in this movie. I got it because I wanted to see Urmila acting as a child. When DK informs Indu of his affair, Shabana is stunningly beautiful. |

Engrossing and emotional film. The struggles of the mother(Indu) to accept the product of her husband's unfaithfulness is gutwrenching. Her inner conflicts are depicted quite effectively. Acting by all is very much up to the task at hand. The director shows skill in keeping overeaction and overdramatics in check while drawing you in to the film as a tense sporting event might accomplish. |
