Vijay Chowdhury (Jeetendra) is the village headman who is honored and respected by all in the community. He and his wife Laxmi (Jaya Prada) have brought up Vijay’s younger brother Ravi (Mithun Chakraborty) like their own son when their parents died. Ravi falls in love with Lalita (Padmini Kohlapure), the daughter of the local grocer, who’s notorious for his unscrupulous practices. Ravi and Lalita get married and to everyone’s joy, both the sisters-in-law become pregnant at the same time. Tragically, Laxmi loses her baby, while Lalita’s baby survives. Laxmi is shattered and to save her reason, Lalita agrees to give up her baby to the lady who has been so good to Ravi. The peace of the once-harmonious household is now destroyed as the two women battle it out for the affections of the child and their husbands are torn between love and duty. This dramatic film is directed by topnotch South Indian director K Bapaiah. The film’s music is composed by Laxmikant – Pyarelal. |
