Khwahish traces the intriguing, exciting, passionate and poignant relationship of Lekha Khorzuverkar(Mallika Sherawat) and Amar Ranawat(Himanshu Malik) from the time they meet, through the ups and downs that modern urban couples experience, to the end of their relationship five years later.
The film explores in microcosmic detail the growth of their relationship - their acrimonious meeting, the growth of a quirky friendship, attachment and attraction, the joy and fear of acknowledging their romantic feelings for each other, the progression to a comfort zone of physical contact and kissing each other's lips and the girl's mental block in dealing with pre-marital sex.
Amar proposes marriage-just for one reason, sex! His father is dead against the marriage as he feels Amar and Lekha will sponge off of him. Despite the protestations they rebel and stupidly get married, go to Manali on their honeymoon, get horny and stoned, and discover they have no condoms. From condoms hunting in the night in Manali, to a chawl room in Pune where Amar starts him M.B.A., Khwahish traces the couple grappling with a host of emotions and issues.
Lekha supports her husband through his studies with some help her father. Even though they have no money, they enjoy the freedom and joie d'vivre of being together until he graduates and lands a job.
Now the strake reality is evident. Boredom sets in: "We don't talk anymore." "What do you mean, we're talking now?" "I mean you leave from work in the morning, come back late, eat and watch TV and all we do now in the bedroom is sleep." "Finally, is marriage a convenient arrangement?" |
