Dil Chahta Hai is the story of three friends Akash (Aamir Khan), Sameer (Saif Ali Khan) and Sid (Akshaye Khanna). Just out of college, they have different viewpoints about love. Sid loves a divorcee (Dimple Kapadia). Sameer, who constantly keeps falling in and out of love, finally settles for a girl (Sonali Kulkarni) chosen by his parents. Akash, who does not believe in love, goes to Australia to handle his father’s business. He meets Shalini (Preity Zinta) who is betrothed to another man and they become friends. Their friendship soon turns into love and Akash has to accept the inevitable.
Director Farhan Akhtar`s (son of lyricist Javed Akhtar and scriptwriter Honey Irani) promising debut attempt is an entertaining tale with a different perspective on the friendship angle. Shankar - Ehsaan - Loy have come up with a winning score. Songs like the title number ‘Dil Chahta Hai’ and ‘Koi Kahe Kehta Rahe’ grows on you. |

The songs are good. Just the part about Dimple Kapadia. I don't know where she fits in! |

Lagaan was my first Bollywood movie. I loved it. But the next several Hindi movies we rented were very disappointing. Dil Chahta Hai is the movie that got us over the hump and made me and my wife full Bollywood addicts. It is a wonderful story of three college chums and their love lives. I rated it a 10/10. Only four other Indian movies have earned that rating from me out of 350 watched: Black, HDDCS, KKHH, and Mr. & Mrs. Iyer. |
