Heart-wrenching and Informative 5 Star Sonjoy

The first time director Shonali Bose delves into the 1984 Delhi riot following the assassination of the then prime minister Ms. Indira Gandhi. She disclosed in the DVD special feature sectrion that she received life threanting warning during the shooting of this movie in India. Even though the movie focuses on a very sensitive and socially relevant issue, it's not boring (it has quite a few light moments). You can always expect the best from an actress like Konkona Sen Sharma (as Amu) and she never disappoints you. I was, however, surprised by the acting skills and abilities of Brinda Karat (as Amu's mother). She was damn good too. The other actors are also well established in Indian (bengali and hindi) cinema and sink their teeth into the respective roles. If you care for good movie, it's for you. The only drawback is, however, the visuals and cinematography, but it's still good given its low budget.
