The Threat
by David Poyer
read by Dick Hill
Unabridged
This gripping novel is loaded with authentic detail about the White House Situation Room and the “football” that accompanies the president.
Praise for David Poyer’s The Command
“Poyer packs the story with both dense technical info and welcome local color.”—Kirkus Reviews
Assigned to White House duty, Navy commander Dan Lenson battles threats against the president and the nation, in this gripping adventure by the author of The Command and Black Storm.
Dan Lenson is stationed in Washington, D.C., for the next step in his career, after years of sea duty and winning the Congressional Medal of Honor. He’ll be in the White House as a military aid or attached to the National Security Council and, in either job, part of the president’s military staff and one of the people who rides with the president in Air Force One.
Dan is assigned to be part of the team working to analyze and defeat external threats to U.S. security. He begins working on threat reduction and drug interdiction and thus is drawn into dealing with a terrorist plot to smuggle in dirty-bomb material using the established drug cartel methods.
In the meantime, there’s an internal threat, from disgruntled military elements, to culminate in an attempt on the president’s life by utilizing the “football,” the suitcase that accompanies the president at all times, which contains the codes and protocols to launch a nuclear strike. Only Dan can stop a plot that would engineer a coup against the president. |
