Gabriel Du Pré finds himself in the White Cliffs area of Montana, a remote region in the shadow of the murky Missouri River. Du Pré has been hired by a group of filmmakers who are shooting a documentary about Lewis and Clark’s expedition. Du Pré is a descendent of Pierre Cruzatte—a Métis fiddler and voyageur who accompanied Lewis and Clark on their journey; his daughter Maria agrees to play the role of Sacagawea.
But trouble is in the air: A fire damages the film props and then two bodies are fished out of the river. Someone doesn’t want Du Pré and the filmmakers there. But could this be the work of a disgruntled local? Suddenly, the backwater locale is swarming with television crews, reporters, and FBI agents, as tensions rise to a boiling point.
Cruzatte and Maria offers a story of the West, past and present, a slew of offbeat characters, and a touch of murder. |
